Another post filled with random thoughts with no real focus. Australia (Cricket not violence), Roger, Tiger, Lakers, Leander etc. Enjoy

Saw about 200 status updates from friends on FB rejoicing in the early Aussie departure from the T20 cup. I love the Australian Cricket Team. I have loved them since the Alan Border's days and are my second favorite team, after India of course. They are aggressive, talented, play hard (I don't have issues with sledging) and are winners. Fine Fine, I will agree they have lost their invincibility for sometime now but they are still the team every other team wants to beat. Choosing between them and say an Ireland in the Super 8's, no question, I would want Australia. Even if you hate them you have to admit, the matches they would have been involved in make for more interesting entertainment than Ireland's matches. No disrespect to the Irish of course. 

Anyway, let the comments attacking me for liking the Aussie Team begin. Oh and please don't make it about what is going on in Australia with the violence and all because honestly, while the violence is unacceptable, I am not connecting the two things. At least so far.

Roger Federer- Check out ESPN's Greg Garber's article on the GOAT debate. He talks to some interesting people and gets their views. Also check out Sports Illustrated's Jon Wertheim's summary on the French Open. He says that if a month ago he told you that one of the guys (Roger or Rafa) would beat the other to win in Madrid, win the French and then come in to Wimbledon as a favorite, who would you bet on? Amazing how things change.

Tiger Woods- What Tiger Woods did at the Memorial Tournament on Sunday was unbelievable. It is like he and Roger are competing to see who the greatest sportsman in the world is. The man just does it again and again. Can't wait till he starts his defense at the US Open. 

Lakers up 2-0. Sucks. I mean I like the Lakers as a franchise but honestly didn't want Kobe to win one without Shaq.

Baichung Bhutia suspended for 6 months by Mohun Bagan because he missed a practice to participate in Jhalak Dikhla Ja, a reality dance show. I don't know the whole story except what I read in the paper, but is this guy serious? What is wrong with our sportsmen? 

Leander Paes- Hats off to him on the French Open victory. He and Bhupati (together and separate) have done it so often and for so long that we don't even notice it anymore. Amazing.

Qadir quit as Chairman of Selectors of the Pakistan team. Is there anything in order over there?

Fake IPL player is back. I don't know if I will read much of his stuff anymore. After the video he posted, and after reading some of his new posts, he seems to have lost that mystery and intrigue about his writings, at least for me.

That's all for now. A quick shout out to my friend DOG who got married (mated) this past weekend. Congrats. Oh and if you don't have Tata Sky Plus, get it, its great.

    Great Post PRG. Love this style of few paras on each issue. Keeps me up to date on the sports world. Also agree with PM, the links to the ESPN and SI articles were great. Keep them coming PRG....

    Come on PRG how in God's name can you like the Aussie team. They are horrible people. There is probably not one good guy on that team. I agree, Fake IPL player has def lost it. Screw Roger...Nadal Rocks!!!

    Harsh, true.... Nadal rocks......in a cradle, he!he!!he!!!, he is undoubtedly a great tennis player (can't take it away from him) but don't be bias against Roger dude, he is awesome

    Fake Ipl player-no comment coz I think the IPL is the biggest garbage ever.
    BAichung-cant blame him for doing what he did coz he get's paid nothing by our football board.This is probably one of the greatest footballer's we've produced but makes nothing!

Yes, I am writing a blog. It has been more than two months and I don't have an excuse on why I haven't written, at least not a good one. But with so much sports going on, I finally decided that I am writing again. So here is my take on Roger Federer and the sports event that has had me glued- the World Series of Poker. I haven't written on the World Cup because we are well in to the tournament. May be I will write when it is all over. Here goes... Roger- I have heard so many random theories on Roger Federer's early departure from Roland Garros and The Championships that I figure why not share mine. I am a die hard Roger Federer fan and it pains me to say this, but it is time we stop expecting him to win or reach the final of every grand slam he enters. That period is done. Meera Sanyal- Clueless

While I do admire that Mrs. Meera Sanyal took it upon herself to be an instrument of change, I just wish the instrument was better tuned before it began playing in the orchestra. When it comes to representing south Mumbai and being a member of parliament, I am afraid Meera Sanyal is in unfamiliar waters and it is clear that she has no idea what she is doing. I had the opportunity to hear Mrs. Meera Sanyal, Mr. Milind Deora (Congress), Mr. Mohan Rawale (Shiv Sena), Dr. Mona Shah (Professionals Party of India) and Mr. Bala Nandgaonkar (MNS) speak at an event organized at Altamount Road in South Mumbai this evening. It was a great platform for voters to meet their candidates and get to know what they are all about. I was most curious to see what Meera Sanyal was like. Much has been said about this lady and she seems to be gathering support in some circles. Shahrukh Khan and Security

I feel bad for Shahrukh Khan. I really do. When I get a off a flight all I want to do is just get the hell out of the airport. To be detained for two hours, questioned and not allowed to make a phone call, it must be painful. But at the same time I have to say that in the terror filled world that we live in, sometimes, each and every one of us has to go through this. Even beloved Bollywood superstars. I don't have an issue with SRK's anger, I would be fuming too. I don't have an issue with the media coverage of the event. SRK is a huge celebrity and press coverage was expected. The area that I have an issue with is when people say what happened to SRK was wrong. I firmly believe that superstar or no superstar, each person has to go through the same random checks as we all do. Today it is SRK and so people are upset. What if tomorrow it is some random celebrity from some obscure country that no one knows? At that point we would all say, what is the big deal, he should have b
