Sena and Henry

In poker the term is called being on tilt. Wikipedia refers to it as "a state of mental confusion or frustration in which a player adopts a less than optimal strategy, usually resulting in the player becoming over-aggressive". If any of you have played poker you probably have been on tilt at some point. If you haven't played poker, analyze the behavior of the Shiv Sena over the past few months. To me, it defines tilt.

In fact, they are tilting so hard that they might just fall over. Read the definition of tilt again and you will see what I mean. In poker there are many things that can put you on tilt. Losing to a bad beat, playing a hand badly or even the verbal bashing of an opponent can set you off. The Sena haven't done extremely well in the elections, they have lost some supporters to that guy who left the party and suddenly when that other guys party won a few seats in the state election, the Sena went on tilt and boy have they exploded.

Whether it be the 'loss of faith in the Marathi Manoos' which was later denied/withdrawn, the vandalism at the IBN office or the attack on Sachin, it has tilt written all over it. I mean how ignorant do you have to be to know that the one person you don't go against in this country is Sachin Tendulkar. You will not win that battle.

When you are on tilt in poker you are probably going to end up losing a lot of money. The question is can you get up off the table and come to play another day or do you just stay there till you go broke. What the Sena ends up doing is something to be seen.

Thierry Henry.

I watched the video of Henry's handball on YouTube. There is no question it was deliberate, it was as blatant as it gets and here are my thoughts.

When the hell is Fifa going to get with the modern age and start using television replays? For being the worlds most popular sport they have really been terrible about making this change. They have to figure out a system. Cricket, Tennis, American Football and many other sports have adopted the use of technology. It is about time football did.

Should Henry be banned? No, I don't think so. What he did should not have made the goal count, but that sucks for Ireland. In every sport things like this happen and in every sport, they happen in almost every game.

In cricket how many times has a genuine nick been given not out for a catch? And how many times has a touch on the thigh pad been mistakingly given out? That is why I am against a batsman walking in cricket. In American football how often does a holding pentaly take place without being called, or pass interference for that matter.

Sometimes a refree doesn't see or hear something. That is just a part of the games that we play. "The Hand of God" by one of the games greats is a legendary story of the sport. This stuff happens. I personally don't thing Henry had planned that if he got a chance he would use his hands.

In addition the guy apologized, he feels bad and he seems genuine. I say let is pass, too bad for Ireland and for God's sake can we please use technology in football.

More later...

  1. haha. Loved your analogy of being on tilt. Agree with you completely. They are lost, as is the BJP in my opinion.

Don't agree with you on Henry though. He should be banned. He cheated.

  2. PRG You could not be more wrong on Henry. I am surprised you feel that way. But I agree with the anonymous above, he cheated and should have put his hand up. I think batsman in cricket should walk and I think henry should be banned.

  3. The Sena and the MNS are both nuts. But what is more amazing is that they get away with anything they want to

  4. What amazes me continually is how we live in a democracy yet repeatedly basic rights are violated by parties like the Sena and MNS. Violations i can understand like human beings democracy is also flawed. But what I fail to understand is how not only are there no repercussions for these regressive parties but not ONE single educated elected official in our city (where are our MPs? MLAs? especially the young ones)stands up to even make a statement leave alone do something about this issue. Oh crap forgot its not election time. Oh crap forgot being in Indian politics doesn't require vision or conscience.

  5. great analogy between Poker and Sena. But I disagree with Henry. Just think of Ireland's agony. France can go through, but not Henry.
