Cyclones, Home Ministers and more

Whew!!! That was some cyclone. The winds were blowing at 75 kmh, the rain was belting down, trees were uprooted and I think I even saw a small house fly off Oz style. Its a good thing we shut down schools and offices, and created a little panic. In today's Times of India front page article on the cyclone it is written in bold "heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted over the next 24 hours." Here is my suggestion, if you go out, take some sunblock.

Now, I am all for the 'better safe than sorry' as far as weather is concerned, but how is our MET so off so consistently? And yes I know that a lot of people suffered terribly a few years ago during the Mumbai deluge, but it has created such a fear mentality that at the drop of a hat people panic and the MET department doesn't help. I guess their attitude is that we better issue a warning because if we don't we are going to be criticized. I wish better safe than sorry changed to more right than wrong

I want everyone in Maharashtra and especially Mumbai to get up, go to a mirror and check out their forehead. Do you see what I am talking about? Take a close look, it is there. Some of you may find it easily and some may need to look carefully but on your forehead you should see a big sign that says 'SUCKER'. It is accompanied by an autograph of R.R. Patil. As we mourn 26/11 one year later, the same Home Minister is in place.I feel like all of us in Mumbai got a slap on the face. The short term memory of the media and people is becoming shorter by the day. There has not been one bit of uproar about this mans appointment. The politicians know they can get away with this and they are getting away with it. But then most of us Mumbaikars don't show up to vote, so may be we deserve it.

Few more thoughts.

1) If you haven't read Dan Browns new book, don't. It gets real boring and the ending will leave you very disappointed

2) Get on Twitter, it might be the best invention on the Internet

3) It takes so damn long to renew your passport in this country that it truly reflects the value of the Indian passport in the first place

4) How could we screw up the match where Sachin scored 175. We are pathetic. But he should have seen as through, you need Jordan to hit the buzzer beater, we needed Sachin to play through.

5) Upcoming blogs- Sachin 20 years, Indian TV Anchors I love and hate

  1. PRG- RR Patils appointment is just another display of how pathetic our accountability of our politicians is. You are right, there has been not even one bit of an uproar of his appointment. It is a joke. and the politicians are laughing at us.

WHy dont you also write about the terrorist attach by the MNS on our democracy. Those raving lunatics just do what they want. I am so glad they got suspended for what they did. THey are the worst. Can't believe some people I know voted for one of their candidates, no matter how well they knew them

  2. The MET has to be safe than sorry, and I agree with that policy. But yes, they could import some of the tech from other countries and do a better job

  3. The politicians are laughing at us and how. Look at the message we send them.

    1) Its ok if you screw up

    2) We will do this drama and push for your removal

    3) Then you are free to re appoint yourself less than one year later

    4) We wont care.

    Dude we deserve it.

  5. COnsidering what happens to this city when it pours, I completely agree with what the met department did!Imagine if the cyclone did hit and schools, offices were open.
    R.R Patil is a shocker!!!
I cant believe you actually said that Sachin should have seen us through. The man scored 175 chasing!!! There are 10 other people in the team!!!You are the perfect arm chair crictic. Zero concept of the game.

  6. To the anonymous above it seems you have no concept what it takes to be a champion. Yes there are 10 other people, but every team sport has other team members. What makes Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Tom Brady, etc. the greatest is that when push comes to shove, they carry it through.

In American football, it doesnt matter if you have thrown for 300+ yards and 3 TD's. If you can't drive your team down the field with a minute to go, then you didn't complete your job. Thats not to say you didn't have a good game, you just didnt complete your job.

PG I agree with you completely. I thought Sachins innings was killer, but he didnt finish it.
