Scam Scam Scam!!!!

A few days ago I woke up and as usual reached for the newspaper. There was the front page. Prime Minister Singh was talking about how corruption is impacting our country, there was an article about Adarsh, a piece about the 2G scam and finally a small snippet about the CWG. Exhausted at the thought of reading any of these stories I turned to the sports section only to read about the Pakistan players and match fixing and whether Eden gardens would be ready in time. I put the paper down.

Its been one of the most tiring few months that I can remember. CWG, Adarsh, 2G and lord knows how many more. Most people probably assumed that there are scams like this going on but when you see it unveil itself and understand the magnitude of the scams it hits you hard.

An estimated $38 billion was stolen from the country in the 2G scam. $38 billion. Sorry just had to type that twice. In terms of what happened with the CWG no one really knows the hidden truth, because once the games started the story changed, and now that they are over, no one cares. Finally the Adarsh one was probably the most shameless. Built to house Kargil widows and heroes the building was stolen from the same people who died for our country. How morally corrupt does one have to be to steal from such heroes? Then again I guess you can't be slightly pregnant. Either you are moral, or you arent.

But forget what has happened, I want to know what is going to happen. Are we actually going to get to the bottom of this? Or is there going to be a huge hue and cry made for a while only to lead to nothing actually going down?

The reason I ask this question is look at what has happened so far-

Where is Suresh Kalmadi? Does anyone know? Sure, we read some stuff about his aids being arrested and investigations underway but lets be honest the story has died and the fellow is probably going to get away with it. He's been raping Indian sports for years.

The 2G scam broke around mid to early November and then Raja's home was raided on the 8th of December. Really? Did they expect that Raja wont touch any potential evidence in his home so as to not interfere with an investigation? Come on. And why is it only now that names are coming out? How long will this investigation take to be complete?

Does anyone know what is going on with Nira Radia or Barkha Dutt or Vir Sanghvi? Probably not because no is looking in to it.

Maharashtra did lose a chief minister because of Adarsh, but how long before he is appointed to the central cabinet or some other senior post?

Which takes me back to my original question- Are we really going to get to the bottom of this? Personally I doubt it. Indian politicians are experts at creating distractions. CWG was followed by Adarsh which was followed by 2G. Then there was silence for a while and now suddenly, just as things are heating up the politicians are going to get lucky because the biggest distraction of them all will be upon us- World Cup 2011. Once that mega event begins who will be talking about Raja? This will be followed by IPL and then we will be in May with the courts closed. Finally in June we will have a new scam or concerns about the monsoon taking control of the news. A perfect script- genius.

So if you are looking for justice, something to come through, think again, it aint happening. They will distract with all kinds of things till you forget about it.
